Each June meeting is set aside to present Veteran’s Quilts to those in our community that have served in the armed services of our country. The veterans are chosen by members of our guild. At the ceremony that member introduces the veteran and gives a presentation about his/her service, which may include any of the following: branch, rank, locations served, number of years, special duties, etc. The veteran may choose to say a few words. Refreshments are served and time is allowed for the members to meet and talk with the veterans.
The quilts are sewn by guild members at one of the guild’s ‘community service’ sewing days or at one’s leisure at home. The chairperson of the committee selects the pattern for the blocks with input from the committee. The blocks for the quilts are cut by committee members and made into kits in advance of the sewing days. Members are also free to make quilt on their own.
