The history of the Penn Rose Quilt Guild begins with our name, which comes from William Penn himself. William Penn bequeathed his land holdings around the town of Nazareth, PA to his daughter Letitia. By decree and under colonial law, Letitia was to pay a single red rose each June 24th, if so demanded by the trustees. People in Nazareth celebrate this each year on June 11th and 12th by various organizations selling single red roses (known as the Penn roses) throughout the town. Since the Guild was first started in Nazareth, meeting in the basement of St John’s Church, our group chose Penn Rose as our name.
The Penn Rose Quilt Guild is the brainchild of two ladies who invited other quilting enthusiasts to an organizational meeting held October 2, 2013. This group invited more quilting friends and the first official Guild meeting was held June 8, 2014 with sixty (60) quilters attending. Today we are a group of about 75 to 80 fabric and craft lovers.
We meet the first Wednesday of each month (except January and February) from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Chrin Community Center in Palmer Township.
We also have Open Sews at least two times a year, also held at Community Center. where we get together to work on community service projects.
The Penn Rose Quilt Guild has a very strong history of community service, with the goal of providing information and exchanging ideas about the art of quilting and other related topics. It is a gathering together of individuals who share an interest in all things quilting and other homemade crafts and provides opportunities for our members to contribute to the needs of our community organizations through our many charitable activities.
